Inside a Lake Norman Build: Wall to Wall Design
On the north shore of Lake Norman in Troutman, North Carolina, John Michael Studio completed a project that puts the full breadth of our capabilities on display. This single home called for cabinetry across nearly every corner of the property: an indoor kitchen, a coffee bar niche, a master bathroom vanity, two additional full bathrooms, a half bath, a private office, a laundry room, a downstairs bar, and an outdoor kitchen. For designers and architects evaluating what our studio can execute across a whole residence, this build is a working case study in scope and consistency.

The Indoor Kitchen: A study in Mixed Materials
The heart of this home centers on a kitchen built around the blend our studio is known for. Metal, stone, and wood working in convert rather than competing for attention. Walnut accents warm the stainless steel base, while stone surfaces tie the palette together. The result reads as organic and natural, not manufactured, even though every piece was fabricated to exacting tolerances.

The cabinetry here is our Madison inset profile, finished in a Sienna powder coated exterior frame. A built in coffee bar niche was added to the plan at the client's request, reflecting trend we see often in our projects. The kitchen has become the true center of the home, and clients want it to work harder, with dedicated zones for specific rituals rather than one undifferentiated workspace.

Master Bathroom: Carrying the Palette Upstairs
The material story continues into the master bathroom vanity, where we paired a Sienna insert panel with a Madison frame. This combination delivers a warm hue at the panel with a cooler tone at the perimeter, a deliberate contrast that lets the vanity feel connected to the kitchen below without simply repeating it. For designers working across multiple rooms in a single home, this is a useful reference point for how we carry a finish language through a project while still giving each space its own character.

Downstairs Bar: Durability Built for Life on a Lake
The bar area may be one of the most technically demanding spaces in the house, and it is easy to see why our team counts it among the highlights of the build. The 42 inch floating island uses soft, rounded corners to ease the geometry of the overall layout, a subtle move that that changes how the whole room reads.
Every base cabinet here is fabricated entirely of stainless steel with a full bleed powder coat, giving the bar the durability to hold up to regular use in a lake house setting. The build integrates a dishwasher, ice maker, and under counter refrigeration, making it a fully functional entertaining space rather than a decorative one.

Outdoor Kitchen: Signature Series in Sienna
No John Michael Studio project is complete without an outdoor kitchen, and this one closes the build with a. signature series flat panel outdoor kitchen finished in powder coated Sienna. The layout includes trash and recycling storage, a grill head, and a pizza oven, giving the homeowners a complete outdoor cooking setup finished in the same material language as the interior spaces.

Extending the Vocabulary: Office, Laundry, and Additional Baths
Beyond the spaces featured in the walkthrough, this project also called for cabinetry in a private office, a laundry room, and three additional bathrooms throughout the home. Each of these spaces gave our team the opportunity to carry the same material discipline into rooms that are often treated as an afterthought in a build. A well built laundry room or office deserves the same attention to fit and finish as a kitchen, and clients notice the difference when every room in the home speaks the same design language.

Why This Project Matters for Trade Partners
What makes this build worth studying isn't any single room. It's the range. One project, one material vocabulary, executed consistently across nine distinct spaces and two very different environments. For designers and architects scoping a whole home project, this is the kind of consistency and versatility John Michael Studio is built to deliver.
